Understanding Dutch Number Spelling

In Dutch, we can write large numbers as one word. This is called samengestelde getallen, or compound numbers. For example, the number 2300 is written as tweeduizenddriehonderd.

How to Spell Numbers

• The first part is the thousands: tweeduizend (two thousand).
• The second part is the hundreds: driehonderd (three hundred).

Here are some more examples:

• vijftienduizend (fifteen thousand)
• zevenduizendvijfhonderd (seven thousand five hundred)
• dertighonderd (thirty hundred)
