What is the Verb Phrase?
In Dutch sentences, the verb phrase is very important. The verb phrase tells us what action is happening in the sentence. It can include one or more verbs.
Parts of the Verb Phrase
- Main Verb: This is the main action word. For example, in the sentence Hij speelt voetbal (He plays football), speelt is the main verb.
- Auxiliary Verbs: These help the main verb. For example, in the sentence Hij heeft gespeeld (He has played), heeft is the auxiliary verb helping the main verb gespeeld (played).
